We are very excited to announce the 5th edition of the Deaf Interpreter Training offered in Fresno, CA! Each of the last 4 years, we have seen the number of people attending our week-long seminar grow significantly - including from the Mid-West and East Coast!

Rosemary R. Wanis, Ed. D., MSW, CDI, is offering a training as you seek to meet your goal of becoming a CDI. This training is presented jointly with Jim Brune, CDI and Rachel Kleist, CDI both from Cohort 1.
The focus of this training is to give you a comprehensive foundation of what it means, and what it takes, to be a Deaf Interpreter. You will be given foundational skills and experience from which to begin your journey as a Deaf Interpreter Professional.
TRAINING LOGISTICS:
Fees including training and meals with an option for lodging.
Meals are from lunch on the first day (Sunday, June 16th) until dinner on the last day (Saturday June 22nd); for a total of 19 meals. We will go out to eat one night for dinner. Please bring extra cash/card for that one meal. Please provide your food needs with your registration so that we may accommodate you the best that we can. There is a Starbucks close by if you wish to do a coffee run in the morning before the training begins for the day. Evenings are yours, you are free to go out on your own or hang out at the facility. The only evenings that we are in training is the first day and last two days, Sunday, June 16, Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22.
Snacks will be provided as well as water, coffee, and iced tea: every day, all-day.
All participants are required to have one roommate. Private rooms are not available. Lodging includes bunk beds and a private bathroom for each room. Bring your own towels and toiletries. Bring your own twin size fitted sheet, flat sheets, and a blanket. There is one air conditioning unit shared by every two sleeping rooms. No hair dryers provided, you may bring your own.

Personal vehicles are safe in a locked gated area.
Some of the money that we collect from registration goes back to serving the homeless community through Fresno Rescue Mission, will pay a stipend to Deaf individuals who come to the training as our guests for hands-on practice, and for support of the local DeafBlind service group for providing us with training about working with this specialized population. Questions about financial aspects of this training may be directed to Rosemary in the interest of being fully transparent.
Training begins at 12 noon on Sunday, June 16 and ends at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.
You may NOT leave for one or two days and return; you are expected to stay for the entire training. If you leave, you will forfeit all hours of the training.
Hearing interpreters will join us on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 for the module on Deaf-Hearing Interpreting Teams.

Participants are encouraged to stay at the Mission at the Mission for the entire training to ensure that we have plenty of time to practice, study, and apply new knowledge and skills with peers while we are here.

All of you are encouraged to contact your RID affiliate chapter for financial support/sponsorship as well as your Department of Rehabilitation Counselor to determine if you might be eligible for financial aid.

After you complete the registration form, please email a 3-4 minute video of yourself using YouTube to and provide the weblink to your video in the registration form below (see the last question). Your video is to include the following:
1. Your name and where do you currently live
2. What experience (if any) do you have as a deaf interpreter
3. What interpreting training have you had so far
4. Why do you want to participate in this specific training
5. What is your long-term goal after taking this training

CANCELLATION Policy:
If you need to cancel your registration; please submit a request via email to [email protected] no later than May 9 for a full refund. See Refund Policy for more details.
NOTE: Maximum number of participants is 15. If we are under enrollment at 10 or less, the training will be cancelled.
REFUND Policy:
Refunds must be requested via email lat least 30 days from the first day of training. Please allow up to 30 days to process your refund minus the initial online transaction fee.
In the event of cancellation on or before May 9; a full refund will be issued (minus the online transaction fee).
In the event that you cancel on May 10 or after, you will be issued a refund of up to 50% of what you paid (minus the online transaction fee).
SCHOLARSHIPS may be available pending sponsorships.
To apply for a scholarship, send an email to CaDeafInterpreterTraining with name, email address, best way to contact, and please insert a link to your video in ASL describing why you believe you would be an ideal candidate for a scholarship to attend the 2019 Deaf Interpreter Professional Training in Fresno. Please provide three (3) references (name and email address) of individuals (two interpreters and one Deaf Community member) who can verify your interest in participating in this training.
