Consumers often recognize that interpreters have strength in vocabulary, fingerspelling, and numbers. However, the richer the skills of prosody and use of space need development. Using "face and space" allows the consumer to more easily understand the message, retain the information, and retrieve and utilize it later.
Knowing when to use these ASL features requires knowing the presenter's goal is at all times. Many interpreters focus heavily on conveying all of the content, the WHAT, and don't recognize the speaker's delivery, the HOW, that would help them know when and how to convey intent, the WHY. The presenter will share a variety of techniques for how to recognize the goal of the presenter and then use of face and space to enrich interpretations. The workshop will be conducted in a safe and fun environment!
